Second Grade
Theme One - Silly Stories

In this theme, children will learn what makes a story silly.  They will also work on target skills in Phonics, Comprehension, Vocabulary and Fluency.  In Phonics, we will focus on short vowels a and i; short vowels o, u, e; and long vowels with CVCe patterns.  Our Comprehension instruction will focus on story structure, fantasy and realism, and predicting outcomes.  The reading strategies we will focus on will be summarize, monitor/clarify; predict/infer; phonics/decoding.  We will work on homophones, synonyms and mulitiple-meaning words in Vocabulary and will work on indentifying sentences, naming parts of sentences, and action parts of sentences in Grammar.
