Second Grade
Theme Five - Family Time

In this theme, students will read fiction and nonfiction selections about families.  They will read about brothers, sisters, parents and grandparents.  They will discuss what makes families special.  In the phonics lessons, the students will learn about base words and the endings -er, -ed, -ing and -le, silent consonants and the sound of y at the end of words.  In Comprehension, they will continue to practice the following strategies: evaluate; question; predict/infer; monitor/clarify and work on the skills of making generalizations; following directions; making judgments and sequence of events.  Students will learn about both present tense and past tense verbs in grammar.
