High 5

Drug and alcohol use in adolescent school children is real and should be a concern to all members of our community.  We at Horizon Middle School want to provide opportunities for our students that can guide them and support them, when they are feeling torn between what is right and what is wrong. Therefore, we are proud to participate as a HIGH-5 Drug and Alcohol Free School.

HIGH-5 is a statewide program sponsored by the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association.  The focus of this program is to involve students in student activities at school.  We have just completed our our pledge drive and invited all  students to sign a pledge card that states "I believe in Horizon's philosophy of a drug free school.  I am committed to be drug and alcohol free.  I am committed to assist my school to be drug and alcohol free."

Those students who have signed their pledge cards will be invited throughout the year to participate in HIGH-5 member-only events.  In the past, these have included WSU or EWU football games, the Corn Maze, Co-Ed Volleyball Tournament, Chief's Hockey, Spokane Shock games, and an annual Silverwood trip.  Cost will vary, and these trips will always be announced via our morning announcements and here on our website!

GOOD NEWS:  78% of our student body pledged to be drug and alcohol free this year!!  The 7th grade led the way with 85% of their entire class pledging!  KUDOS Hawks!

NEXT EVENT:

February 22nd-Chief's Hockey Night for the entire family, at the Spokane Memorial Arena.

We will have 50 tickets to sell for $5.00 each.  Gather your High-5 family and join the fun!

Tickets will be on sale during both lunches-stay tuned for specific dates!

NOTE-There will be no transportation provided; we will see you there!
