Each trimester teachers and other staff at
Horizon
Middle School
nominate students for our Exceptional Hawks, Students of the Trimester program. Each of the three trimesters focuses on a different set of character traits. The first trimester we are looking for students who are respectful and friendly, the second for those who display strong leadership and academic qualities and the last trimester is for students who show strong school spirit and participation in extracurricular activities. The descriptions for each trimester are below.
The students chosen during each grading period are treated to a pizza and ice cream lunch here at school. They are recognized again at the end of the year when the students and their families are invited to our annual continental breakfast to be held on June 6, 2006.
Student of the Tri descriptions:
1st trimester
FRIENDLY/RESPECTFUL/CARING
We are looking for those students who always greet people with a smile, treat staff and peers in a respectful manner, are welcoming, enthusiastic and show concern for and are willing to listen to others, and volunteer in their school and community. Nominations should reflect a person who exhibits the following characteristics: good first impression, positive attitude, is open, honest, thoughtful, considerate and courteous.
2nd trimester
THEME: ACADEMIC and LEADERSHIP
This tri’s theme is academic and leadership. We are looking for those students who excel academically, are conscientious, committed to the learning process, participate in class, strive for improvement and challenge themselves. They also should make good choices, have a positive effect on others, be willing to make a commitment and follow through, accept responsibility, and are looked up to by other students. Nominations should reflect a person who may exhibit the following characteristics: positive, conscientious, cooperative and accepting.
3rd trimester
THEME: SCHOOL SPIRIT
This trimester’s theme is school spirit. We are looking for those students who are enthusiastic, have good attendance, are involved in extracurricular activities such as WEB, High 5, student council, debate, drill team, music and sports and who support school programs. These students have a supportive attitude; encourage others in a positive way, value team work and sportsmanship. Nominations should reflect a person who may exhibit the following characteristics: attends and supports or participates in school wide activities and projects, is willing to volunteer time and energy to our school. These students represent Horizon in a positive way.
