Welcome to 7th or 8th grade science!
Looking forward to a great school year.
Class Description: Both 7th and 8th grade will utilize application of the scientific method and a hands-on activity approach to each science unit. Our program utilizes many forms of technology, Computers, weather station, microscopes, digital scales etc. and integrates all other areas of the curriculum. 7th grade uses a series of seven books. 8th has one really big heavy book. Each chapter in each book includes math and language arts.
The science curriculum is set up to meet the Washington Essential learning benchmarks and offers assessment materials to help ready students for state testing.
NOTEBOOKS:
Students will be keeping a notebook for every unit. All student work including tests will be placed in this note book. Please take time to check out your student's notebook frequently. We hope this will help students develop better organizational habits along with the ability to see progress as they complete each unit.
Grading:

Quizzes/notebook - 30%
Tests/Projects - 40%
For more information including extra credit, see the student contract in student notebook.

Grades are also posted in class every two to three weeks. We urge the students to check these postings. It is their responsibility take care of any problems or missing work before it affects their grade average.
If student does not complete an assignment on time, they will need to have an incomplete form filled out and signed by a parent/guardian for the grade. Each day that the form is late is a 10% drop in grade.
Most lesson worksheets along with some very useful websites pertaining to the lesson can be found on http://sbaran.net. Students and parents should access this site to see what we are studying at a particular time. Also, the work sheets can be printed/copied.
