School Improvement Plan
School Improvement Goals:
All students will learn at high levels when given adequate time and support
Reading:
1. Collaboration building-wide focused on Dibels, ARI, DRA assessments results, skilled grouping, differentiated instruction, best practices, and timely interventions
2. Diagnostic assessments for students needing additional time and support
3. Continue focus on reading comprehension strategies
4. Continue use of Accelerated Reading Program in all grades
5. Grade Level Collaboration focused on best-practices, common assessments, and what we do when students don't meet or are working above the standards
6. Continue Extended Day classes for students that need extra time and support
7. Focus on differentiated instruction for ELL students and students working below and above the standards
8. Curriculum Night to explain reading focus, individual student assessments, and how parents can support their children at home
Math:
1. Grade Level collaboration focused on best-practices, common assessments, and what we do when students are working above or below the standard
2. Continue Extended Day Classes
3. Continue Math Night in 1st through 5th Grades
4. Continue focus on math problem solving building-wide
5. First in Math - 4th and 5th Grades all year, January - 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Grades join.
Writing:
1. Grade Level collaboration focused on best-practices, common assessments, and what we do when students are working above or below the standard
2. Explicit teaching of the writing process using mini lessons
3. Continue emphasis on conventions
4. Begin implementing writers workshop format
Technology:
1. First in Math: Students will use First in Math to practice and extend learning in all math content areas both at school and home using this internet based program. 4th and 5th Grades all year, January - 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Grades join.
2. Math Factory and Math Facts in a Flash: Students will use both programs to learn math facts and strengthen computation skills.
3. Accelerated Reading: Students will read Accelerated Reader books, tests will be taken on the computer and passed, and students will accumulate points as they pass AR tests.
4. SIS WEB: Teachers building wide will use the SIS WEB website Fall, Winter, and Spring to record reading scores.
Character Counts Themes: We will focus on one character trait each month such as Respect. Helping Hands Awards will be awarded, and we will have a Character Counts Assembly. Our morning annoucements will focus on a character trait.
Demographics: Greenacres supports the largest ELL (English Language Learners) population in the Central Valley School District.
1. We will send parent letters and notices in Russian and Spanish for every school event. Interpreters will make phone calls home as needed.
2. We will have interpreters for academic events such as Math Night, Conferences, and Mother Read/Father Read.
3. We will use interpreters when possible for Extended Day activities.
