Elementary Counseling Program Mission Statement
Our mission is to provide a comprehensive counseling and guidance program as an essential part of education for all students at all levels. Programs shall facilitate student development in educational, social/personal and career domains to promote responsible, productive citizenship and life-long learning.
Philosophy
We believe all students have the right to the best education available. We believe the school counselor’s role in this process is to support learning for all students by offering the highest quality educational and career guidance and personal/social counseling when needed. The school counselor works in collaboration with parents, school district staff and community resources.
Greenacres’ Counseling Program
Mrs. Durkin divides her program into three main categories; individual counseling, group counseling and class room instruction. She teaches lessons to all grade levels on honesty, friendship skills, tolerance, anti-bullying lessons, study skills, drug/alcohol resistance skills, and social skills. Other counseling activities include; group guidance, teacher resource support, assessment coordination, crisis counseling, parent support, community resource referral, consultation and administrative support.
