8th Language Arts

Our focus in this class is to prepare for high school.  Students in eighth grade Language Arts will be required to read and write daily.  Student writing will be assessed using the four trait method adopted by Central Valley:

  • Organization
  • Style
  • Content
  • Conventions

The curriculum for this class is broken up into three trimesters. 

In first timester students can expect:

  • One expository essay
  • Grammar and Parts of Speech including: nouns, verbs, conjunctions, and pronouns
  • Short stories pertaining to the Civil War
  • Spelling

In the second trimester students can expect:

  • One persuassive essay
  • Grammar and Parts of Speech including: adverbs, adjectives, interjections, and prepositions
  • Poetry
  • WASL preperation
  • Spelling

In the third trimester students can expect:

  • Creative writing
  • Grammar and Parts of Speech including: diagraming sentences
  • The WASL!
  • Business writing
  • Holocaust / Diary of Anne Frank
  • Spelling
