Liberty Lake Kiwanis Earn Meritorious Service Award
The Liberty Lake Kiwanis organization was awarded a Meritorious Service Award for a Community Member/Organization at the March 24, 2008 meeting of the Central Valley School District Board of Directors. The group was nominated by Greenacres Middle School on behalf of the five schools the Kiwanis has assisted this year.
Through their volunteer activities and financial support, the Liberty Lake Kiwanis has enhanced the overall education of students in all grades across Central Valley School District. The nomination cited the following examples of community service:
- Liberty Lake Elementary School - created the K-Kids service program; contributed to Junior Achievement, school barbecues, Back to School Night; supported the Teacher Appreciation Breakfast
- Greenacres Elementary School - supported Art on the Green, school math program; supported the purchase of docking cameras
- Greenacres Middle School - purchased a cello; supported a before school tutoring program; sold food at PTA Family Dance Nights
- Barker High School - sponsored the Key Club, sewing classes and a pancake feed for the teen program; financially supported graduation, the Get Lit! Program, and the purchase of baby food
- Central Valley High School - purchased glow sticks for graduation; awarded $21,000 in scholarships to Barker High School and Central Valley High School students
The Liberty Lake Kiwanis has extended its community service beyond the city and county boundaries to support many students throughout Central Valley School District.
