P.J. Jarvis Named NW District Elementary PE Teacher of Year
Opportunity Elementary’s P.J. Jarvis has been named the 2011 Northwest District Elementary Physical Education Teacher of the Year by the Northwest District Association of the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (AAHPERD). She receives her award next month and will go on to represent the Northwest District at the National Convention as one of six candidates for the National Association for Sport & Physical Education (NASPE) Elementary Teacher of the Year.
Jarvis was recognized for her achievements in five criteria areas: conducting a quality K-12 physical education program reflecting NASPE standards and guidelines, using a variety of teaching methods and innovative learning experiences to meet the needs of all students, serving as a positive role model, participating in professional development opportunities and providing service to the profession through leadership, presentations and/or writing. Jarvis was originally nominated by two colleagues and received the Washington State Elementary Physical Education Teacher of the Year award in October 2009. Jarvis has been teaching health and fitness in Central Valley for the past eight years, most recently at Greenacres Elementary.
