Central Valley High School Student Wins State Metal Arts Competition!
Central Valley High School senior Rachel White took top honors in the jewelry division at the “2010 Passing the Torch” Washington State High School Metal Arts Competition sponsored by the Seattle Metals Guild. The awards ceremony took place April 17, 2010 at The Washington State History Museum in Tacoma and the qualifying metal artwork will be on exhibit at the museum through May 23, 2010.
Fifty-six student entrees from 11 Washington State high schools were judged based on creativity and craftsmanship in the categories of Jewelry, Sculpture/Hollowware and Best Washington State Icon piece. In addition to Miss White, Central Valley High School (CVHS) students Kalvin Le, Peyton Rockwood, Elizabeth Wagner,Rebecca Kissack and Shane Flesher entered metal art pieces. All six entrants’ artwork was selected for the “2010 Passing the Torch” exhibit. The selected pieces on exhibit were created in Sherry Carson’s Jewelry and Drawing Art Classroom at CVHS. This is the fifth year CVHS has participated in the event.
