The Omaha culture is a very interesting culture that shows the humane way of life. The girls wore long deerskin dresses and buffalo skin moccasins. Their hair was very short unlike the guys who wore their hair long and wore pants made of deerskins and moccasins made of buffalo hide. They hunted large game for food and clothing. Rabbits were an exception to this. They hardly ever fished, but when they did it was for salmon. The Omaha culture lives in the Nebraska region. They started out nomads but then they started traveling with the Pawnee Indians. There are about an estimated 5,124 Omaha Indians left today. They built earth lodges, which 2 to 3 families lived in unless they were small families, and then they had 4 families in 1 Earth lodge. The Omaha tribes are very intelligent. But they didn’t have any religious beliefs. They didn’t have any rituals and they didn’t worship any gods. The Omaha tribes didn’t believe in any religion. They didn’t have any religion. Even though they were nomads they still walked to the Pawnee and Blackfoot tribes for trade of furs or meat, if they got lucky they would find a nice trade with vegetables. The women in the Omaha tribes would usually only make the clothing and cook the food. The guys would go hunt for the food and protect the village. When the guys hunted they would bring tepees that the women made so that it was easy travel. The women would make the tepees and the wig whams, which were covers that went over the tepees when it rained so that no water would get in. The men would build the earth lodge houses while the women did the “squaw” work. The kids would learn to ride horses. His or her mother would make the saddle specially made for each kid. The dad would teach the kids how to ride while the mother made the blanket to put on the horses. That is the way of the Omaha tribes.
