More about Mrs. Mortensen
Thanks for visiting my website! I grew up in the Spokane Valley, and attended Central Valley schools my entire educational career. I am a 1999 graduate of University High School, where I graduated as Salutatorian with a 3.98 GPA. I played varsity softball for the Titans for 3 years and we went to the state tournament every year, coming in 5th my junior year. I then went to Washington State University to pursue my dream of becoming a teacher. My three and a half years there were some of the best years of my life. GO COUGS! My final semester I spent at Evergreen Middle School, completing my student teaching under Jerry Buckenberger. I graduated Summa Cum Laude with a 4.0 GPA from Washington State University in May 2003. Staying in Spokane after graduation was a priority for me, and I was fortunate to earn a position at Greenacres Middle School. My heart remained at Evergreen though, and when a position opened up, I jumped on the opportunity to return to the school. I love being at this school. My students are incredible and opportunities for me to grow professionally abound at Evergreen. Coaching is a passion that I have been able to pursue, coaching 7th grade varsity softball the past 4 years, as well as 7th grade JV volleyball and Intramural tennis in the past. I also coach the 6th through 8th grade Math is Cool teams. In December 2006 I earned my Master's degree in Technology through Lesley University, graduating with a 4.0 GPA. During the 2006-2007 school year, I worked on earning National Board Certification in Early Adolescence Mathematics and successfully earned my certification in November of 2007. I got married in June 2004 to Adam Mortensen, who is a materials engineer at Hi-Rel Laboratories. In August 2007 we took an amazing trip to eastern Australia, spending 2 weeks exploring the coast. In May 2008, we had a son, Lucas Wayne Mortensen, who brings joy and even more love to my life. We have a cat, Biggie, and a dog named Charlie. In my spare time (which is quite rare these days) I enjoy reading, scrapbooking, taking pictures of my son and animals, shopping with my mom and my friends, and watching TV shows on DVD. If you ever have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me!
