Chester Students Celebrate "Walk to School Day"

Chester students and staff participated in the International Walk to School Day on Wednesday, October 8. This program promotes safety and fitness for children.

School Improvement Plan

Chester Elementary is working on specific goals in the following areas:

Achievement - Reading

1.  Using the DIBELS assessment data, the following percentage of students will be in the highest level for reading achievement:  K-70%, 1st-75%, 2nd-80%, and 3rd- 85%.

2.  Using the WASL assessment data, the following percentage of students will be in levels three and four (passing):  3rd-85%, 4th-90%, and 5th- 95%. 

Achievement - Mathematics

1.  Using the WASL assessment data, the following percentage of students will be in levels three and four (passing):  3rd-75%, 4th-80%, and 5th- 85%. 

Contextual

1.     Chester staff will participate in professional training sessions in the areas of reading, writing, and/or mathematics.

2.     Chester staff will participate in professional development in areas that impact student learning, such as, classroom management, motivational strategies, and information regarding student disorder.

Demographics

1.     Chester will maintain a 97% or above daily attendance and on time arrival rate as measured by annual reports.

Perceptions

1.    Improve communication with parents using a variety of tools, i.e., school newsletter, Friday folders, etc.

2.  Develop classroom websites linked to the school website.

Safety

1.    Classroom backpacks and supervisory fanny packs will be annually maintained with supplies for emergencies. 

2.     Emergency drills will be practiced monthly according to district policy and Fire Marshal regulations

Technology

1.     Written communication will be improved through keyboard skill building.
