Our writers will keep a writer's notebook this year and the teaching and learning will follow the writer's workshop model.  Students will learn from a mini-lesson, independent writing time and conferencing, and finally, sharing their writing with one another.

The students are guided through the writing process; prewriting, drafting, revising, proofreading, and publishing.

Our writers focus on the 7 traits of writing: Organization, ideas, sentence fluency, voice, word choice, conventions, and presentation.

Fourth graders will learn and use the expository and narrative formats.

Narrative writing: Tells a story. Creative narrative writing has a plot, setting (where and when the story happens), and characters who have motives (reasons) for what they do. It has a problem to be solved or a challenge to be overcome.

Expository writing: Explains, describes, gives information, or informs the reader.
