Homework consists of incomplete work from the school day and is due the following day unless noted in the planner. In addition, students will be given a separate homework assignment a few days each week. All assignments will be written in the planner, with the homework circled. Each student is responsible for asking a parent/guardian to review their planner and sign it every night. This encourages responsiblity, complete work, and keeping everyone informed. Please feel free to write notes to me in the planner, (I will check them every morning) and please also check for notes from me.
Math
There will be a math assignment almost everyday except for tests and some other occasions. Students will have class time to work on the assignment, but what isn't finished must be completed as homework and is due the following day. Students may bring home their math reference text book in addition to their math journal as an extra resource for understanding what is being taught at school.
Spelling
Spelling lists are sent home each Monday after the pretest, and students will be tested on the 25 words on Friday. They should be studying the words throughout the week at home. In addition, students will be given spelling pages in their Practice Books each week. These are due each Friday. Look for the page numbers in the planner.
Fourth graders should be able to accurately spell the 101 priority (high-frequency) words. They will be tested on words from this list frequently throughout the year. Students will have a copy of these 101 words, and they can also be found on the spelling page.
Social Studies/Science
Social studies and science homework will vary. (See planner)
Reading
Students should be reading 20-30 minutes every night. A monthly reading log will go home at the beginning of each month for students to keep track of their minutes. Students will earn a reward and a free Pizza Hut pizza for meeting the monthly goal.
Practice Book (PB) comprehension page assignments can be found in the planner. These questions come from the story we read each week. Reading PB pages are due every Friday along with the spelling PB pages. I encourage students to read the story of the week at home in addition to reading it Monday at school. Students will also be recording new vocabulary words each week. We will be practicing them in class, and students may also bring them home if they wish.
