Pre-Advanced Placement is a College Board program created to provide teachers with content-specific strategies for building a rigorous and challenging curriculum. Teachers employ Pre-AP strategies to prepare students to succeed in future courses in AP and other areas of study. Students will develop and practice critical thinking skills, discussion skills, complex writing skills, and work with literature that will prepare them for success in AP courses and on AP exams. To facilitate the best possible outcome for students who later choose AP courses and complete AP exams, it is important to begin the intensive and rigorous study now. Placement in these courses is dependent upon a screening process.
The Advanced Placement Program is designed to allow students to take college-level courses while they are in high school. These courses are taught by high school teachers who follow curriculum guides established by college faculty through the College Board Advanced Placement Program.
