Students graduating from CVHS must earn 3.0 credits (6 semesters) in the Mathematics Department.  These credits may be fulfilled by completing courses numbered 3100 through 3993.  This also meets the credit requirement for entry to a 4-year college.

The CMIC curriculum has been recognized by the U. S.  Department of Education as an Exemplary mathematics Program with high ratings in four categories: quality, usefulness to others, educational significance and evidence of effectiveness and success. The program is also supported by the National Science Foundation and it aligns with the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM), standards which were developed in 1991. A parent support web page has been developed by the Core Plus Mathematics Project, along with a page designed for homework help.

The Advanced Placement program is designed to allow students to take college-level courses while they are in high school.  These courses are taught by high school teachers who follow curriculum guides established by college faculty through the College Board Advanced Placement Program. Students who score ‘3’ or above on a five-point scale are usually given college credit at colleges and universities across the state and country.  Each college defines what scores it accepts for credit or course placement.   Expectations for academic performance, behavior, maturity and time commitment are at the college level.  Parents and students should expect more reading and homework and expect to be evaluated as a college student.

The AP Math course offered is Calculus.  AP offerings are dependent upon enrollment.

The skills gained in these courses are typically used in the career paths for: Arts ; Administration & Sales; Business Operations; Science & Technology; Social Service; Technical.
