Drama
The Theatre Department produces a winter musical, spring production and two small-cast productions during the school year. It is the mission of the Theatre Department to promote excellence and professionalism in theatre performance, production and education through the Performing Arts. Students with interest in acting, set design and construction, lighting and sound reinforcement, costuming and makeup will want to participate. Involvement will develop the student’s collaborative skills, ability to adapt to new situations, problem solving skills, speaking ability, historical perspectives, and school-to-work transitions. This may be taken for Fine Arts credits for the acting cast members, or Technical Occupational Education credit for the technical staff.
Auditions for the Central Valley Theatrical Company will take place at the end of the school year for the following year’s season. Call-backs will take place for individual roles the first week of each semester and will consist of cold-readings, ad-lib exercises, and music and dance auditions for the musical. Drama will meet 4-5 times a week for 2 1/2 hour rehearsals as needed September to May. Most fundraising is accomplished through ticket sales, donated goods and services, and corporate sponsors. Students may be asked to help with fundraising projects. There are minimal script costs and travel expenses to State and Regional Festivals in April. All participants are responsible for providing their own makeup. Dance shoes are sometimes needed and there is a minimum fee for costumes. An ASB CARD AND SIGNED PRIDE-HONOR CODE ARE REQUIRED. ALL PARTICIPANTS WILL NEED TO SIGN AND FOLLOW AN ACTOR’S CODE OF CONDUCT!
