Everyone in this class is intrigued by George Orwell.

Thomas Hardy is revered as a demi-god.

Yes, during the school year, we will read works by both Orwell and Hardy, but this summer please select some memorable reading from the list below.

A Modest Reading List for Summer 2008

The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain

Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte and/or A Farewell to Arms by Ernest Hemingway

The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck and/or Catch-22 by Joseph Heller and/or Silas Marner by George Eliot

(If you've read some, most, or all of these works, please read at least three new books this summer.  Read more even if you haven't read these already -- my hope is that you will all become enthusiastic readers of quality books.  You will find many titles and authors on the AP web site identified at the bottom of this page.  There are also many lists of "great books" and classics found elsewhere on-line.)

Have a great summer!
