Composition Techniques

Composition: an orderly arrangement.

           Simple, single object

           Complex, 2 or more

Arrangement: to create harmony.

  Selection:choose what you want

  Placement :decide where to put it

Tools of composition:

  Center of interest:

  one object

  bright color

  change of value, dk among lt.  Lt among dk

  contrast in size: big among small

   small among big

  detailed

Balance:

  formal: equal weight on each side

  informal:: comfortable with one another

  radial: outward movement from a central   point.

Movement

  direction: linear path-actual

   repeated movement=rhythm    

    and repetition with variation.

    detail to detail or light to light

Space

  Positive/Negative

  object is positive, space around  object  is negative.
