Jewelry Techniques and Metalsmithing

Central Valley High School

Instructor: Mrs. Sherry Carson

Interest in personal body adornment is universal. Students here at Central Valley are introduced to a variety of techniques, historical background, design, metals and semi-precious stone as they pursue their desire to create unique pieces of jewelry.

Beginning students learn soldering and finishing techniques in their exploration of fabricating a variety of jewelry pieces.

Advanced students concentrate on casting and stone settings. Bezel settings, prong mountings and channel work are all introduced.

Students interested in further study may select from a variety of techniques to perfect or create larger more elaborate pieces combining techniques with increased scale. Many of our graduate students have been placed in a professional setting
