GRADING POLICY
GRADING POLICY:
The quality and success of a choral program is directly influenced by member attendance and participation. For this reason, daily attendance, participation, attitude, and performance attendance constitute the bulk of the grade a choral student receives.
1. Participation and Attitude: + 10 Points Daily Attendance points will not be awarded if a student is absent. Points will be forfeited for a tardy or if a classroom rule is violated. a. Excused Absences: (Lost points may be made up) Lose 10 points Absence is excused if excused by the attendance office b. Unexcused Absences: (lost points may not be made up) Lose 10 points c. Tardy: (Not ready to sing when the bell rings) Lose 5 points d. Food, gum, or drink (except water): Lose 5 points e. Discipline, Attitude, or Participation problems: Director's Discretion f. Folder / Music left out: Lose 5 points
POINTS LOST FOR AN EXCUSED ABSENCE MAY BE MADE UP WITHIN 2 WEEKS OF THAT ABSENCE
2. Performance Attendance and Participation: 100 Points Each a. If there is a conflict with a scheduled performance, the director must be notified by a parent or guardian, in writing, as soon as possible but at least 7 days before the performance. b. If a student is not in rehearsal the day of a performance, he/she may not participate in that performance and will not receive the participation points. (Points may be made up if absence is due to illness) c. Any student who arrives at a performance without being dressed appropriately will lose 50 points. (Please contact me prior to the performance if unable to get appropriate attire and I will attempt to assist you) d. Any student leaving a performance early without advanced permission from the director will lose 50 points. Please understand that the rules listed above are guidelines, and that I am willing to work with individual situations as they occur.
3. MAKING UP LOST POINTS: a. Students may make appointments to work with the director on their music or vocal skills in general. (lunches, after school, access time) b. Students may get a Music Theory packet from the director and work on their own time. 20 points per unit completed
