Mr. Parker
Classroom Environment
The band room is located at the end of the E Wing in room number E106. Our beautiful facility was built for us in 2002. With all of the practice rooms, ensemble rooms and rehearsal space - students have the freedom to work on their own during their free time.
The band experience is what you choose to make it. Pick from our a la carte menu to create the experience that best suits your interests: concert bands, jazz bands, pep bands, marching band and a variety of small chamber ensembles. Every student deserves a quality, enjoyable musical experience. Through our hard work and commitment to excellence, one can not only have fun and create an amazing social network, but also learn a lifelong skill that will be valued and cherished forever.
Rehearsals in our band move quickly and students are expected to be prepared - your music, a working instrument and PENCILS are expected everyday!
Attendance Policy: Attendance is required to be an active member of the CV Band and Colorguard. Prearranged absences can be submitted no later than two weeks before the absence is to occur – except in emergencies. Your work schedule is not an acceptable excuse for missing any music event or rehearsal. Parents, please make every effort to schedule regular appointments around the music schedule whenever possible. Students are responsible for arriving at each rehearsal and performance on time and properly prepared. Parents are urged to see that their children take this responsibility seriously.
There will be times, hopefully few, when a member must miss a rehearsal or come late. It is the responsibility of the member to request from the director an excused absence or tardy, and the request should be made in advance. Generally, personal illness, family emergencies and religious conflicts are excused. Medical appointments are not excused unless they are emergencies. Most importantly, be sure to submit to the director this absence form in advance.
Excusable absences are:
• Sick from school
• Death in the family
• Important family engagement (wedding, graduation, etc.)
Non – excusable absences are:
• Driving test
• Homework (you must learn to manage your time well)
• Attending a rock concert or pro – sporting event
• Birthday
• Work
• Trips that are not given two weeks notice
• “I didn’t have a ride.” (Your section leader will help you find a ride.)

About Me
In 2002, Mr. Parker received his Bachelors of Arts in Education from Eastern Washington University. Currently, Mr. Parker is working on his Masters in Conducting from the American Band College through Sam Houston State University. A graduate from CV in 1996, Mr. Parker has been assisting with the marching band since the 1996 season as a marching instructor, drill designer, music arranger and an assistant to the director. In 2006, Mr. Parker assumed duties as the director of all school bands.
In 2008 and 2010 Mr. Parker was recognized by community and school leaders as a nominee for the Central Valley School Districts Meritorious Service Award. And in 2009, School Band and Orchestra Magazine selected Mr. Parker as the Washington state teacher for their annual "50 Teachers Who Make a Difference," highlighting one teacher from each state that is making a difference in school music.
Mr. Parker and his wife Lauren have a three year old son named Joshua and are expecting their second child this spring after the Lilac Parade. It appears that Josh is already interested in trumpet as a future endeavor.
Mr. Parker continues to ask the most of the musicians here at CVHS. The most important traits and values of our band students are accountablity, creative thinking, a good work ethic and a sense of humor.
