COE Augmentation
Why do I need this class? Students in the State of Washington must meet WASL standards to graduate from High School. At this time if a student has not met WASL standardsm, the student is given an opportunity to submit a Collection of Evidence (COE) to the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI).
What is the Collection of Evidence? Collection of Evidence: Students compile a set of classroom work samples with the help of a teacher. To meet standards in Reading, the student will submit samples of written responses to Literary and Informational text. These samples will include up to six literary and six informational samples.
How do I submit my Collection of Evidence? Samples are compiled in the Reading Workshop class at Central Valley High School. At the end of the semester, teachers and administrators send the students' COE to OSPI to be scored.
When will I know if I passed the Collection of Evidence and how will I find out? The school district will be notified about 60 days after the collections are submitted. Administrators will notify students after receiving the results.
What is a Reading Sample? A reading sample is the student's written responses to questions after reading informational and literary text. The samples must demonstrate mastery of reading skills.
What is a Literary Sample? A Literary sample is written responses to questions after reading a literary selection.
What is an Informational Sample? An Informational sample is also written responses to questions after reading an informational selection.
