Child Development I
The emphasis in this class is on factors which influence prenatal and early childhood development. Theories related to physical, social, emotional, cognitive and creative development will be explored. Students learn about themselves and others through the study of child development. This class will provide a general background in parenting and child development. Students who successfully complete all three child development classes with a "B" or better may earn up to 10 college credits through our articulation agreement with Spokane Falls Community College.
Washington STARS (state training and registry system) is a 4.5 week segment at the end of the semester. This is a 20 hour basic child care training that is required for all child care center lead teachers, program supervisors and directors. STARS provides a foundation of basic core knowledge about child development, guidance and behavior, health, and safety. Students who the requirements will be added to the registry and increase their employability with industry standard certification. Two college credits will be transcribed if students a B or better and meet all standards.
