Accounting I
Course Overview
Students are introduced to the fundamentals of keeping financial records usng the double-entry system. Students record business transactions and prepare financial reports for a proprietorship type of service business. The business is presented in a complete accounting cycle covering analyzing transactions, journalizing, posting, petty cash, financial statements, and adjusting and closing entries, while working with simulated business papers. Accounting concepts are introduced using a modern business with owners that students can relate to. The course provides students with a foundation of basic skills and knowledge upon which they can constantly build, both on the job and in advanced study.
Goals:
Define accounting terms related to a service business organized as a proprietorship.
Identify accounting concepts and practices.
Analyze transactions.
Record transactions in a general journal.
Post from a general journal to a general ledger.
Reconcile a bank statement.
Complete a work sheet.
Prepare financial statements.
Record adjusting and closing entries.

There will be no rounding between grade levels.

Grades will be computed for tests and quizzes (75%), vocabulary, projects, and daily assignments in the workbook and study guides (25%). If a student receives a D or fails a test, they can retake a different version of the test. The highest possible grade a student can receive on the make-up test is 70%
(C-). After getting back a graded test, students have two (2) school days to notify me that they wish to retake the test. Additional problems or teacher assisted material review may be required before retaking a test.
