Introduction to Technology

Course No. 8300

Introduction to Technology is a class that introduces the principles of all of the Applied Technology courses.  Students will apply the “Design Process” using computers and manufacturing tools to design and make products that introduce the various technologies such as drafting, computer aided drafting, magnetism, basic electricity, robotics, power transfer, and tool safety.

Students will learn to use tools and power equipment safely by completing a safety test for each tool and passing an oral exam given by the teacher.  Power tools that are included and used during this course are:  Band Saw, Scroll Saw, Disc Sander, Oscillating Sander, Electric Drill, Drill Press, Squaring Shear, Box and Pan Break, and Spot Welder.

Students will design a variety of products by using industry drawing standards and a wide variety of computer software including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Powerpoint.
