Band

Concert Band

The Concert Band consists of all freshmen who wish to be part of the band program. This band puts emphasis on helping students to develop proper technique for their chosen instrument, as well as developing sight-reading skills and knowledge music theory. Students practice and perform classical and contemporary band literature of high school level and are encourage to participate in the annual regional Solo & Ensemble Competition during middle/late winter. The band also travels to festivals all around the region.
 
Symphonic Band

The Symphonic Band consists of those who want to continue their musical career. Similar to the concert band, this band puts further more emphasis on technique. Sight-reading ability and music theory knowledge is also enhanced. Students are highly encuraged to participate in Solo & Ensemble during the winter. Like the Concert Band, the Symphonic Band also travels to regional festivals and contests.
 
Wind Ensemble

The Wind Ensemble is Central Valley's premier performing band. This is for elite musicians who have a major interest in intrumental music and requires an audition. The band literature played is advanced high school or of college level. Emphasis is placed on advanced musical and performance techniques. Students are required to participate in Solo & Ensemble in mid/late winter. Wind Ensemble also travels to regional festivals and contests like the other two bands.
  
Percussion Ensemble

The Percussion Ensemble, an important part of all bands, is a class for all percussionists. Students learn specific percussion fundimentals and techniques and apply them to literature unique to the percussion section. The ensemble performs and travels with all of the bands in every concert or festival.
 
Jazz Ensemble I and II

Jazz Band is a zero hour class held every morning. Students in this class explore the idiom of jazz styles and improvisational techniques. There are two bands: Jazz Band I / Advanced Level (audition required), and Jazz Band II / Intermediate (for everyone interested). The Jazz Ensemble(s) travel to regional festivals and performs concerts in the Central Valley Performing Arts Theatre.

Guitar I and II

Within the broad curriculum, students will receive independent instruction to complement their musical interest.  

Music Theory / Piano

This class is open to students of all grade levels who would like to study the basics of music theory or learn beginning piano skills.  The piano portion will be limited to the number of available pianos.
