Theme One - Silly Stories

In this theme, the children will be reading several silly stories and examining what makes a story silly. The children will also be working on target skills in Phonics, Comprehension, Vocabulary and Fluency. In Phonics, the target skills will be a review of the short vowels a and i; as well as short vowels o, u, and e and the long vowels with CVCe patterns. Our comprehension instruction will focus on: story structure, fantasy and realism, and predicting outcomes. The reading strategies we will focus on will be: summarizing, monitor/clarify, predict/infer, and phonics/decoding. We will also focus on homophones, synonyms, and multi-meaning words. in Grammar, our focus will be identifying sentences, naming parts, and action parts of sentences.
