Reading

• Students will demonstrate a positive attitude toward reading.
• Students will read a variety of genre.
• Students will develop a variety of word study skills and strategies to unlock unfamiliar words and to discover word meanings.
• Students will use a variety of comprehension strategies before, during, and after reading text.

Writing

• Students will use a writing process to plan, organize, revise, edit, and publish clear and effective writing.
• Students will understand and use appropriate mechanics (punctuation, capitalization, grammar, spelling) in writing.
• Students will recognize, understand, and effectively use various parts of speech.

Oral Language

• Students will participate in oral language activities.
• Students will speak clearly and effectively in small and large group activities.
• Students will be able to demonstrate listening comprehension in a variety of ways.
