Classroom Environment
I believe that every student is capable of learning, and learning is most effective when it is fun and engaging. My students are encouraged to be responsible for their own learning, and therefore, the majority of their grade is determined through a variety of assessments. These assessments are designed to allow students to demonstrate what and how much they have learned throughout a particular unit. Class time is structured around learning and practicing new mathematical and scientific concepts. Classwork and homework emphasize practice, and represent a small portion of a students overall grade. My students are expected to respect their teachers and all adults, themselves, their peers and property. Students who put forth an effort to learn and grow, regardless of their academic abilities, will not be allowed to fail in my classroom.

About Me
This is my 6th year teaching at Bowdish, and I love it here! Before coming to Bowdish, I spent 15 years teaching at outdoor and environmental education organizations and facilities throughout the Pacific Northwest. I worked as the Education Director for the Adopt-A-Stream Foundation, where I trained hundreds of teachers around the western United States to become certified "Streamkeepers." Many of these "Streamkeepers" incorporated stream monitoring in their science classrooms, restoring small salmon streams, raising salmon fry in their classrooms, and monitoring the health of a small stream near their school. I edited a fantastic book called "The Streamkeeper's Field Guide," and produced an accompanying video with Bill Nye "The Science Guy" before he became super famous.
My wife and family are the number one priority in my life. My wife, Shelley, is a Midwife (delivers babies), and I have 3 beautiful kids: Amelia (10), Ellie (7), and Charlie (5). I am a huge Denver Bronco fan. I love watching and playing all sports, and thoroughly enjoy outdoor activities, in particular floating and fishing beautiful rivers.
