Curriculum
At Barker, all curriculum is developed and aligned with two areas of focus in mind. The first is the Washington State Essential Academic Learning Requirements (EALRs), which identify specifically what we want students to know and be able to do within each content area. The second area is pertinent to Barker students, where we have defined goals that will support every student succeed as she/he moves forward. Including student activities and the integration of steps toward the achievement of these goals throughout the curriculum has become a critical part of our planning. In addition to meeting the Washington State learning goals, when each Barker High School student graduates, our vision for him or her is to also be able to: Develop and utilize literacy and numeracy skills to recognize, plan and solve problems through self-directed efforts Recognize, accept and respond to personal and social norms in all environments Appraise his/her strengths and abilities accurately and demonstrates knowledge of how these can benefit him/herself and others Demonstrate that achievement is the result of work Attain self-worth through productive and measurable engagement Have achieved elements identified in her/his completed fifth year plan, which reflects future goals
