Spelling: This year, students will be given a screening test to see which skills they need to work on. I'll group students by skill levels, and we'll do "Word Work" every day. Lists of words at their skill levels will become their spelling lists. I'll test students when they are ready, so word lists won't always be a Monday-Friday thing. Groups are flexible, so that students can progress as rapidly as they are able. You'll see baggies coming home with words in them. Those are the spelling words for your child. You'll be asked to assist as your child sorts and writes the words from the lists and then hunts in books for more words with the same pattern or sound. (I'll send directions for this homework.) Your help will make a huge difference in how well and quickly your child will move through the skills!
